How Does Embryo Donation in North Cyprus Work
The Embryo Donation process involves multiple steps.
STAGE 1: CONSULTATION
The first step is to contact our euroCARE IVF patient coordinator who will provide guidance and support throughout the process. The coordinator will explain the embryo donation process and ensure that you fully understand your role and what’s involved in the process.
STAGE 2: FERTILITY TESTING
A range of fertility tests is carried out on both partners to help us determine the best treatment plan for you. This include:
- Hormone blood tests to measure:
- TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone)
- Prolactin
- Infectious disease testing including HIV and Hepatitis B and C tests
- Ultrasound scan for uterine assessment and antral follicle count (egg supply)

STAGE 4: EMBRYO TRANSFER
Your patient coordinator will advise you regarding a medication regime to prepare your uterine lining for embryo transfer. You will start progesterone supplementation right after the egg retrieval. This is to make sure that your uterus is ready to accept the embryos.
Embryos are usually transferred on day 3 (cleavage-stage transfer) or day 5 (blastocyst transfer) after the egg retrieval. Finding an Egg Donor in Cyprus
All our donors are between 21 and 28 years old. In addition, all donors have undergone stringent screening tests to ensure that they are healthy and fit for donation. You will get a choice of multiple donors, carefully preselected by our support team based on the specifications provided in the medical form. The general egg donation requirements are:
- Be between the ages of 21 and 28.
- Have regular monthly periods.
- Have no reproductive disorders.
- Be physically and emotionally healthy.
- Have a normal weight – BMI under 28.
- Do not smoke or use drugs.
- Be willing to undergo medical and psychological evaluation.
- Be willing to take each step of the egg donation process.
Finding a Sperm Donor
If embryo donation has been recommended and all issues have been discussed with the fertility doctor, suitable donor sperm will be used for assisted reproductive purposes. The physical characteristics that the patient(s) look for in a sperm donor are recorded. The same physical attributes or qualities such as hair color, eye color, height, blood group, occupation, education, interests, and hobbies are used to choose a suitable donor.
The recipient(s) are not allowed to receive identifying information about the donor. The donor is also not allowed to receive any information about the identity of the recipient couple or the resulting child. The donor has no parental rights over the child/children born as a result of the donation.
Donors are physically healthy men aged between 21 and 34. All donors undergo rigorous screening before being accepted in our sperm donation program. The screening process involves fertility, genetic and infectious disease testing.
Genetic Screening
This involves a genetic disorders assessment and assessment of the candidate’s family history covering grandparents and other descendants. At this stage, we look for any heritable conditions that may be present in the family. All potential donors undergo karyotype testing. Some common heritable diseases include sickle cell disease, thalassemia, Tay Sachs, and cystic fibrosis.
Infectious Disease Testing
All donors are tested for Chlamydia, HIV-I and -II, HTLV-I, Hep B surface antigen (HBsAg), hepatitis C (HCV-Ab), syphilis, gonorrhea. The donor must be retested for infectious diseases every three months before his sample can be used for donation. All sperm samples are quarantined for six months.
