The IVF with donor eggs cycle is comprised of several components, one of which is the synchronisation of the donor’s and recipient’s cycles.
Here we explain what procedures and medications are involved with the egg donor cycle and what to expect from choosing this treatment option.
IVF with Egg donation explained
IVF with donor eggs gives many individuals and couples the unique opportunity to have a baby that would otherwise be impossible. This treatment is normally advised to couples who have a history of failed cycles and where tests indicate very low/no egg reserve, as well as women with diagnosed premature ovarian failure or early menopause.
How do you choose an egg donor?
All EuroCARE egg donors in Cyprus are between the ages of 20 and 28 who are non-smokers and non-drinkers. Generally, we retrieve approximately 12-15 mature eggs from our egg donors per cycle and all eggs collected are exclusively yours (we do not offer egg sharing!).
In addition to the regular health and fertility checks, potential donors must also undergo:
- Extensive application and interview process
- Review of medical history (including family history) and physical examination
- Genetic counselling assessment
Using your photograph and medical forms, our skilled team will recommend the most suitable donor profiles. We have many diverse candidates available including Asian, Spanish, African-American, Caucasian and more.
Your choice for an egg donor is dependent on your pursuit of the following physical traits: hair and eye colour, skin type, blood type, height and weight, fertility history, occupation, educational background, hobbies and personality characteristics.
Will the child look like me?
No matter which egg donor you select, a donor-conceived child will be one you and your partner (if you have one) create and give life to. The child will be exclusive and special to your own family. In the end, he/she wouldn’t be coming into this world if not for the love that you have to give.
It is also important to focus on the fact that you are going to love and cherish this child regardless of eye colour, hair colour, height or other physical characteristics.
Donor’s and recipient’s cycles are synchronised
Once your egg donor is selected, we will prepare her body for egg collection in North Cyprus. When you advise your menstrual cycle has started (which marks the beginning of your treatment process), your donor will begin her stimulation process in Cyprus.
Your egg donor will require daily injections and regular monitoring to develop her eggs. During this time, she’ll be monitored by ultrasound and blood tests for 10 to 14 days until the eggs are ready to be retrieved.
At the same time, you must use medication to prepare your uterine lining for receiving the embryos. We will make sure you and the donor’s cycle are synchronized so your donor eggs are ready for collection when you arrive in Cyprus.
What happens next?
When your donor’s eggs reach maturity, they’ll be collected by ultrasound-guided aspiration. Sperm will also be collected from your partner the same day. The eggs are then fertilised with the sperm using the ICSI procedure (injection of a single sperm into each egg).
The resulting embryos are carefully monitored by our expert laboratory team. When fully developed, the best embryo(s) will be selected for the transfer — normally at the blastocyst day-5 stage.
Before your transfer, if you desire, we can also perform preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) to determine the quality/health and the gender of your embryos.
At EuroCARE IVF, we also offer embryo freezing so you can freeze any remaining good-quality embryos you have in case you wish to attempt conception via IVF in the future.
