Before starting IVF, we need to gather some information about your fertility. This helps us customize your treatment plan. The tests used to gather this information include:
To help you prepare, you may also use a combined contraceptive pill to regulate your cycle, allowing you to plan your treatment dates.
To complete one cycle of IVF takes approximately 18-20 days. Plan for a minimum of 8 -10 days in Cyprus, including travel. Here’s an overview of the IVF with ICSI process (please note that this may vary):
**Important: If you would rather complete the full treatment in Cyprus, you should arrive on the first day of your cycle and stay for 16-20 days.
Initial Scan
During your initial scan, we’ll check the development of your follicles. If your eggs are ready, our team will administer an ovulation trigger injection to stimulate final maturation. Egg collection will take place 34 to 36 hours after this injection.
Egg and Sperm Collection
On the day of egg collection, our team will guide you through the process. You’ll be sedated for comfort while we collect your eggs using a transvaginal ultrasound. This procedure usually takes 20-30 minutes. Meanwhile, we’ll prepare the sperm sample from your partner or donor.
Fertilisation
To maximize the chances of fertilisation, we use the ICSI technique, which involves injecting sperm directly into each egg. Our IVF doctor will update you on how many eggs were collected and the quality of the sperm. After 24 hours, you’ll receive news about the fertilization process and the number of embryos created.
Embryo Transfer
Our skilled embryologist will evaluate the embryos on day 3 and may recommend extending development to day 5 (blastocyst stage). This can enhance success rates and reduce the chances of multiples. The transfer itself is a simple, painless procedure, similar to a pap smear, and is done with ultrasound guidance. If desired, we can freeze any high-quality embryos not transferred for future use.
After the embryo transfer, you’ll begin hormonal supplementation, typically involving progesterone injections and vaginal suppositories. The best way to confirm pregnancy is through a beta hCG blood test, performed 12 days after the transfer. If successful, your body will start producing hCG as the embryo implants in your uterus. We’ll continue monitoring you with ultrasounds to visualize the pregnancy and check for a heartbeat around 2-3 weeks after your positive test.
