Gender Selection with EuroCARE IVF: Helping You Achieve Your Dream Family
At EuroCARE IVF, we understand that building a family is a deeply personal journey. We’re here to offer compassionate, expert guidance on every step, including gender selection, allowing individuals and couples to fulfill their uniquely personal family dreams.
What is Gender Selection?
Gender selection is a medical process that allows parents to choose the gender of their baby, which can be either for medical or personal reasons. EuroCARE IVF offers this option with the utmost integrity, transparency, and professional support to ensure it aligns with the goals of each family.
Types of Gender Selection:
- Medical Gender Selection: This process helps prevent genetic diseases that may affect a specific gender, providing peace of mind for prospective parents with inherited conditions.
- Non-Medical Gender Selection: Offered to families who may wish for gender balance within their household or have personal reasons for preferring a specific gender.
How Does It Work? Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)
Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a sophisticated IVF technology that allows us to analyze embryos for chromosomal abnormalities and identify the gender before implantation.
PGD routinely screens the following five chromosomes: 13, 18, 21, XX, and XY, as these chromosomes cause almost 90% of all genetic disorders. Upon the patient’s request, we can also perform a detailed analysis on the number of chromosomes present within the embryo, as this helps to rule out trisomy and monosomy disorders such as Down’s, Turner’s, Klinefelter’s, and Edward’s syndrome.
During PGD, one cell is removed from day-3 cleavage-stage embryos, which are then tested in a state-of-art laboratory. Once the test results are ready, only chromosomally normal embryos of the desired sex are selected and transferred to the woman’s womb.
Benefits of PGD Testing:
- High Success Rates: By selecting healthy embryos, PGD increases the chances of a successful pregnancy.
- Gender Selection Accuracy: PGD in Cyprus is 99.9% accurate in identifying chromosomal abnormalities and determining the gender of embryos.
- Health and Safety: Reduces risks of genetic disorders, ensuring the health of your future child.
Additional Reasons to Choose PGD:
Couples who are at increased risk for having aneuploidy embryos should consider using PGD testing at our EuroCARE IVF Center. These groups of individuals include:
- Women over 35 years of age
- Couples who have experienced several spontaneous miscarriages of unknown cause
- Couples with several cycles of IVF that have not achieved pregnancy
- Men with low sperm concentration
- Couples with a previous pregnancy with chromosomal abnormality
IVF with PGD Testing Timeline
The treatment process of IVF using PGD involves the following steps (although the timeline may be subject to change depending on each patient’s individual situation):
Day 1 – First Day of a Patient’s Menstrual Cycle
Day 2 or Day 3 – Ovarian Stimulation (hormone injections begin)
Day 6 – Monitoring (ultrasound scan)
*Day 9 – Fly to Cyprus
Day 10/11 – Ultrasound Scan and hCG Injection (when eggs are ready)
Day 13 – Egg & Sperm Collection + ICSI Fertilization
Day 16 – Embryo Biopsy (cell extraction for lab testing)
Day 18 – 19 — Embryo Transfer (blastocyst transfer)
We begin with a thorough consultation to understand your goals and personalize your IVF treatment plan. Our skilled team performs IVF, collecting and fertilizing eggs to create embryos. Each embryo undergoes genetic screening to identify gender and check for chromosomal health. Once a healthy embryo of the desired gender is identified, it’s gently transferred, completing the cycle.
If you plan to complete your entire treatment in Cyprus, you’ll need to arrive at our clinic in North Cyprus on day 2 or 3 of your menstrual cycle and stay for approximately 18 days. During this time, all necessary tests and procedures will be carried out right here at our state-of-the-art facility.
Alternatively, if you choose to start ovarian stimulation at home, you can arrive in Cyprus on day 9 of your cycle and stay for around 10 days. For optimal monitoring and the best possible outcome, we recommend staying as long as you can, allowing our doctor to closely track your progress and make adjustments as needed for your care.
