Discover Tandem IVF: A Unique Pathway to Parenthood in Cyprus
At EuroCARE IVF, we specialize in Tandem IVF, an innovative fertility treatment designed to optimize your chances of conception by combining both your own eggs and donor eggs in a single cycle. This technique is ideal for women who want to increase their likelihood of pregnancy without solely relying on donor eggs. By merging advanced fertility science with compassionate care, our Tandem IVF procedure offers renewed hope for countless women and couples struggling with infertility.
What is Tandem IVF?
Tandem IVF is a specialized procedure that utilizes both a woman’s eggs and donor eggs in one IVF cycle. This dual approach maximizes the chances of obtaining healthy embryos, giving patients more options and flexibility in their journey to parenthood.
We understand it’s certainly not an easy decision to use the eggs of another woman to conceive your child. This is why we do everything in our power to facilitate pregnancy with your own eggs first.
When you undergo a Tandem IVF procedure with EuroCARE IVF, the donor eggs are not our first choice. They are, rather, used as a backup plan. Our goal is to ensure you receive the highest quality care with the best possible chances of a successful pregnancy. Instead of entering an IVF cycle with your own eggs, being unsuccessful, and then moving forward with donor eggs, Tandem IVF increases your chances of first-time cycle success by up to 80%.
You also save time with Tandem IVF. If a cycle with your own eggs is not responsive, you won’t have to come back an additional time for an IVF cycle with donor eggs if you chose Tandem IVF.
Tandem IVF is not available in many clinics around the globe. As the leading fertility clinic in North Cyprus, we’re honoured to offer this outstanding treatment option. We also have IVF Packages to help make your Tandem IVF treatment abroad affordable and stress-free.
Who is a Great Candidate for Tandem IVF?
While individual success rates vary based on factors like age and overall health, Tandem IVF remains a powerful choice for many women who wish to maximize their fertility options. Tandem IVF is particularly beneficial for women who:
- Have a low ovarian reserve or high FSH levels
- Are approaching or over the age of 40
- Produce poor quality eggs
- Have a history of failed IVF cycles
It’s also beneficial for women who want to try using their own eggs but also want the security of having donor eggs as an option, especially if they’re looking for a cost-effective solution that combines the use of their own eggs with donor eggs in a single, streamlined cycle. With this unique approach, Tandem IVF empowers women who have been told “no” by other clinics to embrace a new possibility.
How is Tandem IVF Performed?
A Tandem IVF cycle at EuroCARE IVF follows essentially the same steps as a standard IVF procedure, also utilizing ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection). ICSI is an effective method of fertilization of the eggs with the sperm in our specialized laboratory. The only difference is that you will be provided with an additional set of eggs obtained from a young, healthy donor, which will be used as a back-up plan.
Fertility Testing
Before treatment, the female patient is required to undergo fertility testing to determine the cause(s) of infertility. The male partner is also required to have a semen analysis. Depending on your infertility history, additional testing may be required. Once we receive the test results, our fertility doctors will confirm the most suitable treatment plan for you. If there is any chance you can use your own eggs, this option will absolutely be offered.
Donor Selection
Egg donors are healthy young women between the ages of 21 and 28 who donate their eggs to other women to help them conceive as part of IVF. Our donors are completely healthy, disease-free, driven, and dedicated to helping others become parents. All potential egg donors are required to undergo an extensive screening process, consisting of medical examination, fertility testing, psychological evaluation, and genetic testing. All women who are part of our egg donation program in Cyprus:
- Are between the ages of 21 and 28
- Are non-smokers and are not drug users
- Have no family history of substance abuse or mental illness
- Have tested negative for sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV or Hepatitis B and C
- Have a normal body mass index (BMI) between 18 and 30.5
- Are willing to undergo an egg donor screening process
- Are willing to complete the egg donation cycle
The donor is specifically selected by you and your partner. First, you’ll be asked to provide your criteria for a donor, such as their physical characteristics, ethnicity, education, personality traits, and health history. Defining these criteria helps us narrow down potential matches. Some patients also take into consideration a donor’s previous donation history. Most of our egg donors have successfully contributed to the pregnancy in past IVF treatments, and are usually re-invited to take part in a new egg donation cycle. Once your criteria are set, our Patient Coordinators provide you with profiles of donors that meet all or the majority of your requirements.
Once your donor is selected, we’ll schedule the necessary egg stimulation preparations for both you and the donor.
Egg Stimulation, Retrieval, and Fertilisation
As you begin stimulating your ovaries, your donor will also start her hormone injections. This will ensure perfect timing for the egg collection. Once your eggs and the donor eggs are collected, both sets of eggs will undergo fertilisation with your partner’s (or donor’s) sperm.
Embryo Selection and Transfer
Once fertilisation occurs, the resulting embryos are monitored for development. The best quality embryos—whether from you or the donor’s eggs—are chosen for transfer. The decision on the number of embryos will be made between you and our fertility doctors. There are three possible transfer options, depending on the quality of your embryos:
- Transferring embryos from your own eggs only
- Transferring embryos from donor eggs only
- Transferring a combination of both donor and your own embryos
This dual approach of Tandem IVF enables EuroCARE IVF to provide higher success rates by selecting the most viable embryos, whether from you or your donor.

Take the Next Step with Tandem IVF in Cyprus
Recent research reveals that a mother’s genes can influence her baby’s genetic expression during pregnancy, even when using donor eggs. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) secreted by the mother’s endometrium are absorbed by the embryo. These molecules, present in the endometrial cavity fluid surrounding the baby, play a significant role in shaping gene expression.
This groundbreaking discovery shows that mothers and babies conceived with donor eggs establish a profound biological connection, positively impacting the child’s genetics and development.
